Tips for staying healthy on vacation

Your vacation is valuable but it is also stressful and harmful to our health when we are constantly on the go! Research shows that most people gain weight when they are on vacations. While you are taking a 1 week Manali vacation or a multi-city European tour, travelling often means to hog over the processed food, decadent desserts and perhaps strong cocktails while avoiding your normal daily routine like going to the gym.

So if you want to spread caution and learn how to stay healthy on vacation, we have 7 handy tips to stay healthy on vacation.

Get Vaccinated:

Before you travel anywhere make sure that you seek proper consultation from your physician. It’s not required to get all vaccinations for every trip but if it is, then you should not wait for last-minute after all a lot depends on which country or region you are travelling. You should also consider the individual factors such as your medical history, your travelling duration and specific activities.

Avoid invasion of new germs

While visiting a new place, it is recommended to get a flu shot to get rid of the invasion of new bug. In a few cases, Pneumonia vaccination is recommended to fight that off.

Keep distance from sick people

When someone coughs or sneezes on your face they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain the virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, and got sick. At this moment you should turn away from those people as much as possible. Even if you have contacted with them, wash your hands as often as you can and avoid touching your nose, mouth or eyes…ever!

Wash Your Hands

The most important thing to avoid any virus to get into your body is to wash your hands thoroughly and frequently. Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Pack healthy snacks

While travelling, whether it’s 3 hours journey or more, you should avoid eating processed airport food. Instead, carrying non-perishable or healthy food on hand will make you feel more light and hygienic. Pack many of the healthy snacks in your carry-on and make sure to boost your immune systems before the flight since you are sure to be exposed to a lot.

Avoid or limit the intake of sugar

Sugary food makes up a large part of the average diet because they taste good. Everyone loves to eat baked food, candy, sweetened beverages and it is more likely to cheat on your diet by having a scoop of ice cream on your vacation. You’re on vacation—go ahead and eat dessert. Just remember to savor it slowly and that portion size counts.

The most important thing you can do while travelling is to sleep. Your body needs rest when you’re physically travelling, crossing time zones, carrying luggage to and from destinations, walking all day, and so forth. Travelling is harsh on your body so make sure you get plenty of rest.

Enjoy your escapade and stay healthy!
